Corozal Airport, Ranchito

Ranchito Airport

In the 1960s, the Corozal District obtained one of the most helpful services in the country of Belize. Situated in the north entrance of Corozal is the well-known, Ranchito Airport, in Ranchito Village.

Just being a large piece of fruitful land, fully covered with grass and tall green everlasting trees, the former owner, Mr. Jones, decided to dedicate this piece of land to a more useful way of helping both national and international tourists. That is, tourists from abroad as well as our fellow Belizeans. Presently, it is now a very reliable source of travelling of which the Belizean Government has a responsibility.

The first plane to land at the Ranchito Airport was from the Maya Airlines. Later Tropic Air and Maya Island Air also started landing at the airport near the Corozal Bay. Presently, charter flights, Belize Defence Force (BDF) planes, and air ambulances have also found good use of this airport, for fast, safe, and comfortable transportation.

Funding and Maintenance

The airlines pay landing fees to the Government. The Ministry of Works provides the remaining funding and maintenance.
