Corozal Tennis

Hilal Jundi started volunteering to offer tennis lessons in Corozal in January of 2009. Jundi was born in Liberia, Monrovia, Africa and graduated from the University of Liberia. He started playing tennis when he was 12 years old, becoming very competitive from the beginning. in 1989 he was the number one tennis player in Liberia. He worked for 5 years as a tennis coach at the Liberia Recreational Club.

In 1992 Jundi moved to Belize for business opportunities. While in Dangriga he played on the Belizean national soccer team. He met the woman who is now his wife in 2000, and they have 3 children. The family moved to Corozal in 2008 when his wife was transferred to be the computer instructor at ITVET.

In January of 2009 Jundi started volunteering to teach tennis. During the past summer, he gave lessons to kids every day. Since school started the lessons are given on Saturday.

The tennis program in Corozal is just beginning, and there is a vibrant interest from parents and students for the sport. There is now an official Corozal Tennis Association, which will support the sport, and help to raise the funds needed. More information to come.

Right now there is a need for rackets, balls, and even a tennis net! They are currently using a volleyball net which they lower for tennis.
