Special Olympics, established in 1968, globally serves more than 3.4 millions athletes with intellectual disabilities. It's at the local level, like right here in Corozal, where volunteers meet the athletes, adults as well as children. Year-round training continues where athletes develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy. Volunteers find perceptions changing and a growing love for this population.
Belize has a National Board for Special Olympics and every district has a representative.
People with love, patience and understand for children with special needs are especially welcome to volunteer to help in the Special Olympics. Commitment, enthusiasm and responsibility are helpful!
On Facebook, there is a Belize Special Olympics page for pictures and activities.
