Tue, 20 Mar 2018 — Vernal Equinox

The Vernal Equinox, the exact moment when the days and nights are equal length, will occur in Corozal at 10:15am on Tuesday, March 20th, 2018. This technically begins Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.

In Belize and in the Tropics in general, we don't really have four seasons, so it's mostly a curiosity.


Wed, 21 Mar 2018 — Water Interruption, Parts of Corozal Town

Belize Water Services informs its customers in parts of Corozal that there will be an interruption in the water supply today, Wednesday, March 21, 2018, starting at 1pm. The areas to affected are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Avenues and 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th Streets North.

This interruption is the result of ongoing works. Customers may experience low water pressure and/or discoloration when water is restored.

Residents of these or nearby areas are advised that water supply should return to normal by 5pm today. If they experience water supply problems after that time, they should immediately call BWS’ hotline at 0-800-CALL-BWS (0-800-225-5297) to report it.

BWS apologizes for any inconvenience this interruption will cause to our customers in the affected areas of Corozal.

Belize Band Fest 2018 is a big event in Corozal Town on Saturday, 24th March. The street parade will begin at 9am, with the field performance starting at 1pm at Ricalde Stadium.

Mon, 26 Mar 2018 — Easter Egg Hunt and Basket

Come to the Corozal Public Library, 1st St South, and register for the Easter Egg Hunt and Basket program for ages 4 to 14. The program is Monday 26th March to Wednesday 28th March, 2018, from 2:30pm to 4:00pm each day. Limited space is available, so come to the Library and register.

Tue, 27 Mar 2018 — Womens Month Press for Progress

All women of Corozal are invited to a special program at the Corozal Library, 1st St South, in front of the Park. Corozal health workers will offer free blood test, blood pressure test, and weight. There will be a guest speaker. Starts at 5:30pm.

GOB Bans Single-use Plastic Bags, etc.

Wed 21 Mar 2018 — By the 22nd of April, 2019, businesses in Belize must phase out single-use plastic bags shopping bags, styrofoam cups and other containers, food utensils, and similar items. There are already biodegradable plant-based replacement products on the market.

This is very good news for anyone concerned with long-term effects on waste management, waterways, marine animals, and even the tourism industry.

San Victor Gets Solar Water System

Fri 2 Mar 2018 — On March 1, 2018, a ceremony inaugurated the new solar water supply upgrade for the Village of San Victor, Corozal District. The funds coming from the Government of Belize and the Caribbean Development Bank amounted to over 830,000 BZD.

This means that the availability and supply of safe water for over 200 homes, schools and churches will contribute significantly in the reduction of incidences of water-borne, food-borne, vector-borne and communicable diseases among men, women and children, thus improving the wellness and quality of life and health of residents and visitors in San Victor, and by extension, the people of Belize. Tropical Storm Nate

Fri 6 Oct 2017 — (5pm) — Tropical Storm Nate is approaching the northern part of the Yucatán Peninsula. Later it is headed toward New Orleans or the Mississippi Gulf Coast as a probable hurricane. It looks as if Corozal has been spared any major storm effect once again.

Run 4 the World

Tue 26 Sep 2017 — On Saturday, 23rd September 2017, CYCAS supported Run 4 the World. Here is a link to an album on Facebook. Click for album

Run 4 the World is an event sponsored by CYCAS (Committee for Youth, Children and Sports). Every year there is a run for the kids and then a ceremony. They are working on the health of youth and others in Belize. A special concern is diabetes.
