Mon, 17 Jun 2013 — Men at Work Art Exhibit

The Corozal House of Culture is pleased to be presenting the Men at Work Art Exhibit. We are delighted to showcase art produced by male artists in the Corozal District. We celebrate their diverse artistic disciplines: wooden sculptures, acrylic paintings, wooden bowls, charcoal drawings, baskets, organic furniture, multi-media art and more. This exhibit will be open for the month of June.

Topic: The Belize Wildlife Conservation Network
Guest speaker: Nikki Buxton

Nickki Buxton, vice president of the Belize Wildlife Conservation Network, will be our speaker at the next meeting. She will share what the BWCN does, which includes:

  • promoting publicity and public awareness about wildlife
  • addressing human-wildlife conflict
  • facilitating rehabilitation and release of rescued wildlife
  • partnering with organizations such as Wildtracks, Belize Bird Rescue, Belize Zoo and many more

Nikki will also talk about her personal passion and specialty - the birds of Belize.

Please note that the forum has changed venue. Our new meeting location is the Cultural Center on First Ave. (next to the Thunderbolt dock).

The archaeological history of Belize over the last 200 years illustrates that "Mayan mound maulers" – a phrase coined by Dr. Norman Hammond of Boston University who worked in the ruins of Noh Mul and Santa Rita in the mid 1970’s – were in this country along with those who raped and pillaged our forest of its natural resources even before slavery was introduced to our shores.

BTL Will No Longer Block VOIP

Tue 30 Apr 2013 — As of today, BTL will no longer be blocking VOIP services. So Internet users in Belize will be able to use SKYPE, Net2phone, and other systems to make long distance calls for free (other than their Internet connection).

Prime Minister Hon. Dean Barrow announced that BTL is enabling "full and open access to VOIP based services and applications in Belize … the government needed to keep its commitment. Technology is moving so quickly that we would have been playing a losing game if we had continued trying to restrict VOIP."

The Corozal Police formation under the command of Superintendent Andrew Ramirez held a most successful town meeting last night at the Andres Campos Civic Center. The meeting was chaired by Henry Menzies, President of the Citizens Coalition For A Better Corozal. Even though the turnout was quite disheartening, the topics and statistics discussed were very much enlightening to those in attendance.
