Mayor's Welcome

Hilberto Campos, Mayor of Corozal Town

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Corozal, the town and district featured in this community website. We are located on beautiful Corozal Bay, and we are described as a peaceful, serene, off-the-beaten-path area. Here you can find many attractions, anything you need for a vacation or re-location, and a population of people of all cultures eager to make you feel welcome and help you in any way they can.

We are the northern-most district in the country, only fifteen minutes from the Mexican border, with easy access to Chetumal, the thriving metropolis and capital of the State of Quintana Roo in Mexico. That means you can either avoid large crowds and have a peaceful, secluded day, or easily find what you might want in a large metropolitan area. Because of our location, our citizens are usually fluent in both English (the official language) and Spanish. Both are taught in our high schools. And our culture is a rich mixture of our Mestizo and our English (Belize was formerly British Honduras) heritage as well as contemporary modern influences. Many of our people are also of Maya descent.

We have rentals, restaurants, public recreational areas on the bay, public markets with fresh vegetable and fruits, and hotels and rentals with a wide range of prices and conveniences. If you want to stay connected to the world, we have internet connections and email that are available for your residence, in hotels, and internet cafes are easy to find. Our regular mail service is also an option, and the post office is personal and friendly. They will hold general delivery mail for you!

Enjoy this website about our town, and come and visit us and enjoy Corozal for yourself.
