According to the BEL Power Outages Page, a scheduled power outage will affect all of Corozal and Orange Walk Districts, from 6:00-6:30 am and from 1:30-2:00 pm.

In the past, these times have been only approximate, with the actual power outage starting up to an hour or more later. Especially during the rainy season, the outage might be cancelled at the last minute.

St Geo Caye

St George's Caye Day

Also called National Day, St George's Caye Day celebrates the end of a battle from 3 to 10 September, 1798, when an invading Spanish force from what would become Mexico was repelled by a small force of woodcutters called Baymen, assisted by black slaves. The critical battle occurred on 10 September off St. George's Caye, leaving the Spaniards in confused defeat.

To begin St. George's Caye Day celebrations, the sirens will be sounded at 6:00 am. The Official Ceremony will beheld in front of the Town Hall beginning at 9:00 am, followed by a parade. A beach party will follow at Miami Beach at continuing until midnight.

Reduced Electricity for the Next Four Months

Due to damaged generating equipment in Campeche, Mexico's CFE will not be able to supply supplemental power to BEL for four months beginning 8 May. This means that Belizeans will need to conserve electricity to avoid power outages.

BELMOPAN - Belize is reporting suspected cases of swine flu as the WHO raised the global alert to level five, suggesting that a pandemic is now imminent.

All major public events, including the National Agriculture and Trade Show, the Crooked Tree Cashew Fest, and a Morgan Heritage concert scheduled for the long weekend, have been called off in Belize as health authorities investigate at least two suspected cases there. Over in the Bahamas, 10 students and teachers who arrived at the beginning of this week are under quarantine.
