Corozal Public Library

The Corozal Public Library is a place for the citizens and children of Corozal to enjoy, as well as tourists. It is centrally located on 1st Street South right next to the Town Hall. We are beginning this section and will be adding more in the near future. There is an active program for children provided by Elena Castañeda, librarian, that goes on throughout the year. Included are:

  • A Saturday Reading Program during a part of the year
  • A Summer 2-3 week educational program — 46 students attended in 2006, Coral reefs were studied
  • A Children's Siumulation Month — pre-school groups tour the library, get a library card, and practice how to properly care for books
  • Holiday events are celebrated with decorations of the season, Independence Day, Christmas, Halloween, etc.
  • A Saturday Video showing during much of the year

NOTE: The library is in dire need of a new VCR/DVD player in order to continue the childrens' programs! If you can donate a VCR/DVD player, or would like to make a donation for the purchase of one, please contact or go by the library during opening hours.

There is much more at the library, which we will feature here in the near future.

There is an organization called Friends of the Library who are involved in promoting the library. They have made a map of Corozal Town you can obtain at the library for a small donation. It has a list of local birds and trees, and you can be listed as a sponsor on the map for a donation. Drop by the library for more information.
