National Art Exhibit

In early June, Corozal Town Hall hosted the exhibit 29:Artists, Works, Years. The exhibit started in Corozal and is touring the country, ending in Belize City in September for the September Celebrations.

This month's Art in the Park is Saturday, July 17, 2010.

ICA in Corozal, which functions under the auspices of NICH is offering local painters, photographers, sculptors, and wood carvers an opportunity to display their work, on a designated Saturday of each month at Central Park. There is no charge to participate. Interested persons can pick up a guideline sheet at the Town Hall.

Often there is music to add to the festivities. Dancing does break out in places at times.

Ballet Recital 31 March, 2010

Thu 24 Jun—Corozal Classic Dance Education presented a recital on 31 March, 2010. ... show/hide

Beth Bower and her students of Corozal Classical Dance Education presented "An Afternoon of Broadway" recital at ITVET.

Ms. Bower and 8 of her students donned their pretty ballerina costumes along with appropriate make-up and performed for those at the event. Pictures were taken at the dress rehearsal, while it was still light.

Independence Day Exhibition Opens in Corozal

Thu 3 Jun—A National Collection of Art Starts Its Country-Wide Tour in Corzal ... show/hide

This September, Belize will celebrate 29 years of independence, and and an exhibition entitled "29: Artists Works Years" is beginning a tour of the country. It is being held at the Town Hall, and will be there for approximately two weeks.

There are several different types of art, some patriotic and some just a representation of art in Belize.

We will bring you more of this news item in the next couple of days.

East Indian Festival Report

COEICH had a successful first Festival on 28 February at Miami Beach.

There was food for sale such as Tacari, Dahl roti and others. There were dancers performing, and people visited displays with information about the East Indian culture at the display booths.

The theme was "Retracing the Footsteps of Our Ancestors."

Corozal Christmas 2003

Corozal Town lights up for the Christmas holiday season! It is worth the time to get out and see the sights. Here is a sample from 2003.

Corozal Cultural Center (museum)

The Corozal Cultural Center or Museum is presently closed. We hope this presentation will help stimulate interest in getting it opened again.

Corozal Public Library

The Corozal Public Library is a place for the citizens and children of Corozal to enjoy, as well as tourists. It is centrally located on 1st Street South right next to the Town Hall.

The Mestizo Culture

Mestizo is the mixture of Europeans (Spanish) and Indian ancestry (Amerindians). It comes from a Spanish word meaning mixed.

Elvi Vega, Miss Belize 1997-98

On 16 September 1997 Corozal's own Elvia Vega won the Miss Belize Contest. Elvi is a graduate of Corozal Community College and Corozal Junior College, and she graduated from the University of North Florida. Her mom was a teacher at CCC, and she is now the Counsellor at CJC (as Elvia Vega Samos).

Costa Maya Festival

The International Costa Maya Festival takes place in San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye. In this particular year (1998) Corozal was offering a sample of the festival to encourage appreciation of the Maya heritage in the Corozal District.

Boatbuilding in Corozal

Sarteneja Village, in the Shipstern Peninsula of Belize, is famous for its fishing and boat building.

Belchoral Society Visits Corozal

On 15 April 2000 the Belchoral Society of Belmopan offered an uplifting and inspiring repertorie of songs at St. Paul's Anglican Church by the Sea.

Art for the People

On May 20, 2000, four of the artists were in Corozal for the opening of the exhibition, Art for the People, an exhibition by Belizean artists.
